Global Local Urban Fellow for Intercollegiate Media Studies

Picture
Edwin Alexis Gómez comes to the Global Local Urban Fellow for Intercollegiate Media Studies position with a unique combination of abilities and experience in the non-profit social service field as well as the creative arts. He is a graduate of Pitzer College Class of 2008 in Arts with a concentration in Media Studies.

Edwin has become a seasoned visual artist, writer, video producer and graphic designer. He acquired graphic design, video art, and teaching skills as a student employee of the Pitzer Media Studies Department and interning at REACH LA, a non-profit youth, health and arts organization in Los Angeles.

Since graduating he has found his niche in the service sector, and has networked in and around Los Angeles County. Edwin has led HIV prevention programs for at-risk youth working as a Health Educator at Bienestar Human Services. Most recently he held the position of Youth Advocate at the WomenShelter of Long Beach providing graphic design services, counseling, and art therapy workshops for young victims of Domestic Violence. In both positions bicultural and bilingual background allowed him to reach communities that would otherwise remain underserved. Edwin's passion for community activism and social justice coupled with his skills in arts and new media make him an outstanding resource for MASJ students.
