ACADEMY OF CULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Academy of Culture and Technology (ACT) was a start-up charter school in Pomona that served students in grades 6 - 12. The ACT school focused on the arts, as well as utilized media and technology to teach students skills for the future.
• MASJ students helped to develop a media literacy and production curriculum for the school and taught weekly video production workshops in the school's first year.

New Beginnings

The New Beginnings video is a result of a weekly video workshop led by MASJ students at ACT with the middle school students doing much of the camera work.  Used computers were brought in from Pitzer to set up an editing lab on the ACT campus and students learned to edit by making a video about their new charter school highlighting the school's educational philosophy and giving a context the school community from the students point of view.

"Visiting the school was a wonderful experience for me; it gave me the feeling that I was doing something productive for the students who need it the most."
